Eagle Falls & Eagle Lake

Tahoe's most famous short hike — a roaring waterfall above Emerald Bay and an alpine lake two miles in.

The Iconic One

Maximum Scenery, Minimum Miles

On the West Shore at Emerald Bay, the Eagle Falls trail packs an astonishing amount of scenery into a short hike. Within minutes you're at the falls, with Emerald Bay and Fannette Island framed behind you; push on and the trail climbs through granite into Desolation Wilderness to reach Eagle Lake, ringed by soaring rock walls.

It's the busiest trailhead on the lake for good reason. It sits on the southwest side rather than our usual North/East-Shore focus, but it's simply too iconic to leave out of any Tahoe hiking list.
